Nothing makes Stephanie happier than snuggling up on the couch in front of a fire on a dark gray, rainy day with a good book. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, she traded in the desert for the clouds of northwest Montana where she loves to hike, ski, swim, and of course, write! This book is so good in so many ways!

I am amazed at the storyline...
the strength of the main character...
the daily tasks that have to be fulfilled...
the unexpected twist that turns hearts and lives...
the love of a friend...
the determination to make things right...
the connection of two people who just barely met...
the way the story unfolds...

London Elliott is just trying to make a life for herself and her two children after her husband was killed in an accident.

In order to be with her children during the day she takes on not one, but five paper routes all to be done between 3:00am and 6:30am.

On one fate-filled morning, London hears an elderly woman call for help.

London responds and her life is changed...in so many good ways...but not without a few trials along the way!

Masterful story-telling in a quick but powerful read

The first chapter had me. Mason weaves a beautiful tale of hope, laughter, pain, family, and faith. While I'm not one to normally read this genre, as it is often too predictable and cheesy, this book stands out. It tells a story that grabbed me early on and was full of enough twists and turns along the way to keep the pages quickly turning. It is light but not weak, fun but powerful. The characters are so real you feel like you might bump into them in the grocery store line, and the dialogue keeps you right there with them. Hats off to Mason -- she proves that a powerful story can still be told in a clean, refreshing read. Well crafted!

What an enjoyable read!!

This is just an all-around great read! The events really pull the story along quickly, but the heart of the book is the depth of the characters. I really felt their heartache as well as their joy. Mason is spectacular at taking the reader inside her characters thoughts and emotions. They are not contrived, but true-to-life and believable. I knew the characters so well that I found myself thinking about them even when I wasn't reading the book. I was so glad to finally find a page-turner, that I was sad to have this book end. I can't wait to read her next one!

Some helpful pointers, but lacking in real insight

Bought this after booking a Cancun trip hoping for plenty of tips on things to see and do in the area. Fodor's guides have been great for this on other trips, however this one was a bit lackluster - the bulk of the Cancun chapter is focused on hotels and restaurants, most of which are in hotels, and this was not incredibly helpful for someone who had already booked a hotel. Also the guidance on getting to and from Isla Mujeres was out of date, quoting a much lower price than what it actually cost for a round trip ferry ride, and the tips on carrying USD vs. pesos were also not in line with my experience -- I paid an exchange fee to buy pesos on its recommendation, but never once went anywhere I needed them - and found that in most cases the USD price was lower. On the whole, aside from making me feel more educated before I landed, I didn't find that this book offered anything that wasn't widely known by the tourism welcoming committee at the airport, my hotel concierge and many of my fellow travelers.

Good info but repetitive.

The book has good information but is very repetitive. Adding repetitive volume to a travel guide is annoying because it only makes the book heavier to carry around on travel.

Don't waste your money, seriously......

My god, the worst devoid of information. I swear they used brochures to put this book together. It was so bad we ordered lonely planet ebook the 2nd day of our trip. Don't waste your money....you actually don't just waste money on the book, but so much more because if the lack of information. We got ripped off non stop because we had no information to go by.

Best yet

The style of this book surpasses anything that Mr. Bradshaw has written. In other words, although his other books are nice, his writing style is not fluent. He must have had help perhaps, but this one flows fluently. The quality of the material is earth shattering. Very few books have I read from cover to cover within a week and this one I did. This is something I can go over and over.

Creating the love you want

I have not read all of this but what I have read is very helpful about understanding dynamics of why we continue to live our lives in the past, though we may not know it. He is coming from a place of exposing the shame element and people who come from or understand the 12 step programs will recognize his way of demystifying pain and shame. He is a gentle caring soul who really wants us to understand and reveal ourselves TO ourselves and then be able to move on.

John Bradshaw's literature has been a real help to me. I enjoy his theories and his style of writing. He doesn't overload you with concepts, but really breaks things down and keeps them simple. I recommend this book to anyone, no matter your situation...it will help.

How could she be so suprised

Th hardest part to believe in this story is that the leading lady has basically written the first two books, but can't figure out what to do when she becomes part of the story. Really? She is continuously surprised and/or confused on what to do. The series is pretty formulaic, there is no excuse for this character to be so dumb. I think it was just lazy writing on the part of the author. The book would have been a lot better if the story had really used the fact that there is finally someone who knows what is going on.

I really loved this book. I'm so glad the Lion found his HEAand to me she was an awesome character. I read this whole novel in one afternoon I could not put it down the characters were great... I love it that the warriors in each story do not think that love weakens them but they thrives off of it and it makes them stronger. Another greAt addition to an awesome series!!!

Great Reading

Pride of the Lion is the third installment of N.J. Walters' short series, Hades' Carnival. This is a wonderfully dark and intriguing world, with characters that are fully developed and multifaceted, with insecurities and flaws just like the rest of us. I do enjoy visiting Ms. Walters' world, but I'm kind of glad I don't actually live there all the time. It is a world where things aren't always as they appear to be, and evil hides behind a pretty, or handsome, face. I love the legend she has incorporated, The Lady of the Beasts, and it sends my imagination into overdrive.

Araminta Davenport is absolutely thrilled to have been invited to participate in one of the biggest, most important reader appreciation weekends...as a professional writer. She gave up her day jobs, and feels that she is finally seeing some rewards for all her hard work. What Araminta doesn't know is that there is someone orchestrating it all from behind the scenes; someone evil and looking toward his own agenda. When Araminta breaks the spell on the lion shifter, Leander, while on the carousel from Hades Carnival, she realizes that what she has been writing isn't fiction at all; her most recent book follows what is happening to her in this life that has gone just a bit crazy all of a sudden. As for Leander, now that he is free, he is determined to stay that way, and keep both the lovely Araminta and himself out of Hades' clutches for the next twenty-four hours. As Araminta and Leander grow closer, so do Hades and his minions, including the ever-mysterious Mordecai, one of the freed warriors who accepted Hades' proposition. When they learn that the events from the first two books written by Araminta have actually occurred, they try to contact the other warriors for assistance. Can Leander keep Araminta safe and refuse Hades' offer? What other secrets will be revealed as these two fight for their very souls? Will there be a happy ever after for Leander and Araminta, or will Hades finally succeed in his evil plans?

Araminta Davenport is smart, talented, and yet a bit shy and unassuming at first. When she begins to understand that Hades has tricked her, she begins to doubt her talent, and fears she has lost her mind at first. But as she gains a sense of what is happening, she is determined to help Leander resist Hades and his many lures and temptations. I liked Araminta's quiet strength and determination, and her ability to accept what is happening without question. I liked watching as she grew closer to Leander, and was able to trick Hades as well.

Leander is an ancient warrior, a lion shifter and one of the beasts cursed by his Lady to protect him and his fellow warriors until the time was right for them to be awakened. Leander is strong, handsome and hot, and yet, he is also considerate and willing to listen to Araminta's ideas. I like Leander for his loyalty and his ability to adapt to situations that are far beyond his knowledge at times.

There are some fantastic surprise twists in this book. I like that Ms. Walters was able to show that even Hades can make mistakes, and forget about some of his goals. There are some unexpected allies here, and I refuse to say any more about them now. Just be aware that all is not lost and nothing is as it seems at times. Of course, there is lots of hot and heavy action as well between Leander and Araminta; it wouldn't be N.J. Walters without it. I am looking forward to the final episode in this passionate tale of good versus evil. Do Leander and Araminta survive their challenge? Now, that would be telling, and I think that it is better to read it for yourself.

Containing Coexistence: America, Russia, and the “Finnish Solution,” 1945–1956, is the first full-scale study of Finland’s role in Soviet-American relations during the onset of the cold war. Cold war Finland was an enigma. Defeated by the Soviet Union in World War II, the country appeared ripe for joining the “people’s democracies” in 1945, when the Finnish communists made substantial gains in elections. But it soon became clear that Finland’s fate was to be different; by the early 1950s, the Finn claimed to be neutral, and by 1956 the Soviets endorsed this claim. Finland’s ability to keep its democratic institutions and Western-oriented trade patterns largely intact was initially accepted in Washington. When the Soviets began propagandizing Finland as an example of “peaceful coexistence” in the aftermath of Stalin’s death, however, Finland’s symbolic significance as a Western outpost gradually gave way to the perception of Finland as a willing partner in a Soviet effort to spread neutralism to western Europe; later such concerns would be captured under the rubric of Finlandization. Despite such growing concerns, the U. S. generally practiced a cautious policy that allowed the Fins to coexist with the Soviets, as long as such coexistence could be “contained” within strict limits. By comparing the “Finnish Solution” with the general role and development of neutrality, Jussi Hanhimaki adds an important dimension to international studies. Jussi M. Hanhimaki is Professor of International History and Politics at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. An editor of the journal Cold War History, he is the author or co-author of six books, including The Flawed Architect: Henry Kissinger and American Foreign
Policy. He won the 2002 Bernath Prize from the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations.

A great introduction to a fascinating question

Containing Coexistence studies what has to be one of the most interesting and least addressed questions related to the early years of the Cold War: how Finland managed to remain neutral and unoccupied. Jussi Hanhimaki has written a detailed, cogent account of the interactions of Finland, the United States and the Soviet Union, with particular emphasis to the changing American assessment of Finland's position in the Cold War.

Probably the part of the book most relevant to students of the Cold War is the first section, which explains how Finland became the sole success story of Yalta. Soviet foreign policy toward Finland is assessed as having been primarily driven by security concerns.

I personally wonder if Hanhimaki gives Finland's leadership too much credit for avoiding absorption into the Soviet bloc. It would seem that the weakness of Finland's communists, the Soviet choice not to advance into Finland in 1944, and the consolidation of Cold War tensions in Central Europe probably did more to shape Moscow's policy than did President Paasikivi's prudent policy. Clearly Helsinki played its cards very carefully and with real success, but I wonder to what extent the outcome was already determined by external events.

In any case, this is an excellent book by a capable and eloquent scholar. It might have benefited from more evidence on the Soviet side, but this is understandly harder to secure.
