Barry A. Vann is director of community and higher education and professor of geography at the University of the Cumberlands. He is the author of Rediscovering the South’s Celtic Heritage; In Search of Ulster-Scots Land: The Birth and Geotheological Imaginings of a Transatlantic People; and (with Ellsworth Huntington) Geography Toward History: Studies in the Mediterranean Basin and Mesopotamia.

Full of fallacies and holes

Islam is a growing world religion. Many of its adherents are moving to Europe and the United States. They are representing a growing trend in immigration. In this book Barry Vann explores the world of expanding Islam through geography, immigration, and growth rates. He argues that a growing Muslim community is a threat to the secular Western model of living. He argues that Muslims must be either totally absorbed into the West or else contained in their own countries. He paints a dim portrait for the future of many liberal countries.
There are many problems with this work. First, his argument rests on several fallacies. That all Muslims are automatically puritan. That is saying all Christians automatically believe in every word of the Bible. The only goal of all Muslims is to be puritan in every aspect. His examples as evidence only come from the Koran, he ignores thousands of years of history. He makes several vague generalizations, and when he does quote from something other than the Koran, that evidence has long been dis-proven. Fear mongering at its worse.

A sobering read.

In light of what just happened in Orlando, this short, but dense book exposes the pernicious nature of fundamental Islam. How many jihadist sympathizers are there? Numbers vary, but even if they are a few percent, this amounts to millions of Muslims who are focused on destroying Western (non-believer) civilization. Dr. Vann quotes extensively from the Quran as well as numerous contemporary sources to make his point. Due to the disenfranchisement of women, their birth rates are the highest in the world. As the Middle East slowly devours itself, many millions will seek to migrate to a civil society, i.e. the USA, Canada, and the EU, bringing their regressive thinking with them. These people, although worthy of pity, are not our friends, and will never fully assimilate into countries where church and state are separate. We have been in conflict with this ideology for 1400 years. Thomas Jefferson faced it when in dealing with the Barbary Pirates in 1803. Only the weapons and the battlefield has changed. A truly frightening read.
