About the Author
Jim Morekis wishes that the rest of the country would allow people to stroll the streets with a cocktail, as you can in Savannah’s Historic District. The Savannah native is thrilled to be able to write about the Peach State for Moon readers.
Jim recently appeared as a presenting author at the prestigious Savannah Book Festival, but he’s better known around town as the longtime editor-in-chief of the local alt-weekly Connect Savannah—formerly affiliated with the legendary Creative Loafing of Atlanta. He’s also a dedicated Moon author who loves few things more than loading up the car with camping gear and traveling around the South. His other guidebooks include Moon Charleston & Savannah, Moon South Carolina, and Moon Coastal Carolinas.
A graduate of the famous Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia in Athens, Jim cheers on the Bulldogs every autumn. He currently lives in Savannah with his ukulele-playing wife, Sonja, and his musically talented daughters, Alex and Sophia. He’s an occasional guitar player himself; sometimes they spend the evening playing music together.

Jim Morekis puts together an outstanding guide to his native state.

Here's an excellent, comprehensive guide that treats the entire state of Georgia as a tourist destination.
The hotspots of Atlanta and Savannah are covered in detail, as you would expect, but lesser-known places like Augusta, Macon, and Athens get noticed too. Popular outdoor destinations, like the north Georgia mountains and the Okefenokee Swamp, are also presented as tourists destinations in their own right. There are suggested itineraries for travelers of diverse interests that are well planned and thought through.
The author is a skilled writer, and his engaging and witty style make for pleasurable reading. Practical information and listings are well chosen and right up to date. While not entirely comprehensive, the dining and lodging options are selected for their quality and value.
Atlanta is a notoriously difficult city to describe as a tourist attraction. The city is a mix of contradictions - historic and ultra-modern, hip and conservative, rich and poor, cultural and commercial. Jim is able to grasp the dual essence of Atlanta and present it to the reader with subtle insight lacking in other guides. Then, when you're ready to get out of the metro area for a taste of "real" Georgia, Jim's got you covered. His chapter on Savannah is particularly good.
