Of special interest are Britten's letters to Beth from America, where he and Peter Pears emigrated in 1939 then became ensconced after war broke out.

wonderful unusual biography of a famous person

This biography is a sweet intimate look at a famous brother, from infancy to his death at age 63.
Although the author obviously adored her younger brother, she does include not-so-flattering pieces about
his life. Beth Britten is not a great writer, but her love for her subject and the wonderful details of
their life in a Suffolk seaside fishing town overcome that. The photographs and letters included add much to
the book.

Charming memories

This is a delightful account of Britten's early life, as seen through the eyes of a fond sister. Her affection for her brother is obvious throughout, and the book is full of interesting details of their early life together, as well as letters from America when they were separated during the war. It's always interesting to gain insight into the 'human' side of famous people.
